Today’s blog from Roger French of Bus and Train User features the Go Cornwall Bus 78 service between Liskeard and Launceston. It describes how Roger waited for the bus in Liskeard which did turn up about half an hour late, his phone call to the GCB call centre, the misleading information on the supposed real time passenger information system, and the difficulties that the driver had on the very narrow road. It is a very interesting read and highlights some of the issues that bus passengers often encounter on Cornwall’s buses.

Update

I wrote to Cornwall Council about this issue and highlighted the problem that Mr French had encountered with the real time passenger information system, an issue that I have raised with CC several times; this is the reply that I received:
"Dear Bob.
Thank you for drawing our attention to this incident- it had also been picked up by our Network Planner to raise with Go Cornwall Bus.
As noted in the blog, the bus had encountered delays outside of the driver’s direct control. However, some time could have been recovered and this has been addressed with Go Cornwall Bus through our contract meetings with them.
In regards to the RTPI feed- if the system doesn’t receive a SIRI feed for more than 5 minutes then the system will flush the predictions and the display will show the scheduled time of the journey and the data will disappear from the sign when it passes the schedule time. If the SIRI feed resumes before 5 minutes then predictions will continue to work.
In the case of this journey specifically, the feeds had dropped out for almost an hour, something we will pick up with Go Cornwall Bus and Idox to better understand why.
I hope this is helpful."
