Electric buses will be coming to the streets of Cornwall within the next year after successful bids for funding were made to the Department for Transport.
In Truro, the entire park and ride fleet will be replaced with electric vehicles and it is anticipated that they will come into service in 2025. There will also be an electric vehicle on the Falmouth town service. In south east Cornwall, thanks to a successful bid by Plymouth Citybus/Go Cornwall Bus in conjunction with Cornwall Council, the 70/70A/70B services that cross the Tamar from Plymouth and serve Torpoint and the Rame Peninsula will get electric vehicles.

It is good news that steps are being taken to reduce carbon emissions from transport and, hopefully, it will be good news for the Truro park and ride service. However, the bigger challenge facing that service is whether it is financially sustainable as it loses customers to the alternative of motorists driving into the city centre and taking advantage of cheap parking deals.
