In August 2023, First Bus gave Cornwall Council 6 months’ notice to cease operating the Truro park and ride service. The notice period presumably expires some time in February 2024 but there has been no news from the Council about what it is going to happen to the service then.
However, a reliable source informs me that First has secured from the Council an improved deal for continuing to operate the service at least through the summer of 2024. After that, who knows what will happen.
Interestingly, the First Twitter feed on 5 January is promoting the park and ride service, see below. It would seem unlikely that they would bother to do this if they were going to cease operation in the next month or so. This would seem to corroborate that some sort of deal has been done with the Council.
I have submitted a question to be posed at the next Full Council meeting to be held on 16 January as follows:
"In August 2023, First Bus gave Cornwall Council 6 months’ notice to terminate its contract to run the park and ride. Would the Council please advise what it has done to ensure continuity of the service once this notice period expires and an estimate of the financial impact of this?” I will post the response that I get after the meeting.
