Park and ride fare increase from 1 April
20 March 2023

The fares for using the Truro park and ride will increase from 1 April 2023.

There is a press release on the First Bus website announcing the changes although, as of today (20 March), there is nothing on the Cornwall Council park and ride webpage and I cannot find any news release from Cornwall Council about the increases.

The standard daily fare for Monday to Friday for one adult will rise from £2.00 to £2.20 (Saturdays from £1.00 to £1.10). The family ticket for 2 adults plus up to 4 children will rise from £4.00 to £4.40 (Saturdays from £2.00 to £2.20). The prices for 5-day, 20-day and 60-day tickets are also rising by about 10%. I have still not received any confirmation from First or Cornwall Council about whether the multi-day bundles are still time limited (see change to park and ride ticketing). I bought a 5-day bundle on 13 February and, having not used any of the tickets to date, my tickets have now expired (see screenshot below). I have requested reimbursement from the managing director of First South West on two occasions but have not received any acknowledgement even of my emails. My recommendation to anyone thinking of buying a multi-day bundle is that you first need to find out what the time limit is on the bundle, and then to think carefully about whether or not you will use all the tickets before they expire. Under the previous system of the park and ride smart card, there was no time limit on use of the credits.

Since fares now have to be paid on the buses rather than tickets being purchased at the terminal buildings, and cash is accepted by the drivers, with a fare of £2.20, expect longer delays on boarding as drivers have to find change more often.

Update 21 March
The information on the Council park and ride web page has now been updated to reflect the new prices that will take effect from 2 April.
