At the Full Council meeting of Cornwall Council on 29 November, I asked the following public question: "Cornwall Council’s Bus Passenger Charter says that Transport for Cornwall will provide, 'A single source of information detailing all you need to know about bus services in Cornwall'. Why then does nobody keep the Transport for Cornwall website up to date and, instead, it contains inaccurate and outdated information?”
Here is the text of the reply from Cabinet member for Transport, Connor Donnithorne:
"Cornwall Council and transport operators in Cornwall are working together to deliver Transport for Cornwall, an Enhanced Partnership that aims to improve the public transport experience for its users, by making buses easier to understand use, more reliable and affordable. A key feature of this partnership is to provide centralised information for those who use public transport and for those who, with the right information, may be encouraged to try public transport with a view to making the switch to bus. It is vital that the Transport for Cornwall brand becomes well-known and regarded by our residents.
With a number of transport operators in Cornwall, consolidating all the information in one place is a challenge. However, the Transport for Cornwall partnership, which was formally established in April 2022, is now jointly producing one timetable booklet for Cornwall and one transport map that include all bus services. Further, the Partnership has developed a microsite (www.transportforcornwall.co.uk) as a way of bringing together journey planning information and the new ticket types and discounted fares available as part of the Make Big Savings By Bus pilot. This collectively managed microsite allows us to signpost users to the most up-to-date information, sometimes on operators’ own websites in relation to service updates, etc. - all efforts are being made to ensure that the content is up to date and correct.”
Unfortunately, the Cabinet member was unable to explain why this “collectively managed microsite” could not be amended to contain the correct information about Tap and Cap, about the latest services updates by GoCornwall Bus, or why the link to the Bus Times Guide Book links to the timetable of 4 September rather than the more up-to-date timetable of 30 October.
